INSTALLATION
Q: I've just bought Wi-Exporter. How do I install it?
A. Shortly after you've completed the online purchase of Wi-Exporter, you will receive an email that gives you login details for a special page on our website called the Owners' Area.
Use these details to access the Downloads / Purchases page where all your downloads are located.
Here are the steps you need to take in order to successfully install Wi-Exporter.
- Quit any running copy of Wi-Exporter.
- Login to your Downloads / Purchases page.
- Download the latest version of Wi-Exporter for your chosen operating system.
- Make a note of the 16 digit registration key number, written above your download links.
- Install your Wi-Exporter download, following the instructions carefully.
- Run Wi-Exporter.
- The first time you run Wi-Exporter you will be asked to register the product by entering your email address and that 16 digit registration code. Once this is verified, Wi-Exporter will become fully unlocked.
Q: Wi-Exporter is telling me that my registration key has expired and I need to obtain a new one. What does this mean?
A. Your registration details are stored in the file REG.KEY which is located in the Wi-Exporter application folder. Every six months or so you will be asked to update your registration by downloading a new REG.KEY file from the Downloads / Purchases page. The link for this file is Exporter-Key.zip.
To update your key follow these steps:
• Quit any running versions of Wi-Exporter.
• Login to your Downloads / Purchases page.
• Make a note of your 16 digit registration code for Wi-Exporter.
• Download the archive Exporter-Key.zip.
• Expand the Exporter-Key.zip archive and drag the file REG.KEY into your Wi-Exporter application folder.
• Replace any existing version of REG.KEY located there already.
• When you next run Wi-Exporter you will be asked to register the product by entering your email address and the 16 digit registration code. Once verified, Wi-Exporter will become fully unlocked.

GENERAL OPERATION
Q: Where do I select the content directory for items I'm exporting?
A: When adding files to the batch list Wi-Exporter will attempt to detect a content directory by looking for the folders "Images", "Objects" and "Scenes". You will be informed of its success through a dialog.
If you need to find / change the content directory for a particular file in the batch list, select it from the list and then click the folder button next to the content directory readout. This can be found at the bottom of the interface in the Current File area.
Content directory choosing works with multiple selections. You can also use the copy and paste buttons ((c) and (p)) to apply the same content directory setting to multiple files in the batch list.

Q: How do I know if an item in the file list has successfully exported?
A. After export, the icons in the batch list will include either a tick, cross or question mark. These denote the success of that file's export.

Q: Can I create my own preset file structures for export?
A. Yes! The structure editor window allows you to create totally user-defined output structures for your files.
Refer to the video tutorials at the top of this page, as well as the User Manual, for information with creating your own folder structures.

Q: Some of my image maps aren't picked by the export plugin. Why is this?
A. There are a couple of potential causes of missing dependent files during export:
- Lightwave file paths can use one of three delimiter characters that indicate a new directory. These are "/", "\" and ":". Make sure your file names do not contain any of these characters, as it may confuse the export plugin.
- Your exporting files may contain something unusual that isn't being picked up by the export plugin. We are constantly refining the plugin to detect more types of linked file, so if you genuinely think Wi-Exporter is missing a linked file, please email us, attaching the problem file to the email:
LICENSING AND REGISTRATION
Q: Can I purchase a multi-seat license for Wi-Exporter?
A: Yes. As well as a single seat license (which entitles you to install on both Windows and MacOSX) you can obtain 5 and 10 seat licenses. For larger orders, please email us at:
Q: Wi-Exporter says my registration key has expired and quits. How do I stop this happening?
A. Following launch of Wi-Exporter V1, on May 1st 2006, users who've paid for Wi-Exporter will need to update their registration keyfile to a permanent one.
Go to your download area and download the latest keyfile (included in the archive "Exporter-Key.ZIP"). Installation instructions are included in this archive. Your key file will need to be updated about every six months, as it expires after this period. When this happens, simply return to your download area, download the latest version of "Exporter-Key.ZIP" and drag the file REG.KEY into your Wi-Exporter application folder.

Q: Why do I have to renew my license every six months?
A. By charging commercially for software, small companies like ours can justify the time and effort, not only to develop useful software, but also to offer good customer support and regular patches / updates. However, software theft is endemic in our industry, almost to the point where many people consider it a kind of "non-crime". The illegal copying and sharing of software may seem like a casual act but it puts small developers like ourselves out of business very quickly - something we'd like to think is detrimental to the people who benefit from our tools.
For this reason, we've introduced a simple licensing system that encourages people to pay the small fee we charge for our utilities. We've chosen a system that doesn't tie the software to a particular platform or computer because we find this highly inconvenient, especially for mobile workers.
However, our fixed expiry system limits the use of illegally distributed copies because each registration key will fail after six months. For our registered users, they overcome this by simply spending a couple of minutes updating the key, ready for the next six months.
Although this is more inconvenient than no registration scheme at all, we hope that users will appreciate that, by spending about as much time as it takes to clean your teeth, once every six months, they are helping us maintain our business and go on providing help, support and useful software tools.
